Susan, if Bush was trying to end terrorism, countries that supported terrorism aren't going to like the United States. Watch and learn America, you will see just who you elected soon enough.

Thoughts on the first press conference:

I thought he looked very tired. This shows he's not one of those guys who gets elected and then says, "Ah, I made it. Now I can relax." We should all feel comfortable that Barack will soon be our new leader.

The questions he answered were direct and to the point. He was very smart in not revealing anything he has learned about our national security when asked that question.

This man is no 'elitist'. The remark he made about calling himself a "mutt" while responding to the question referring to his daughter's new puppy was great. We definitely have the best of both worlds in this President elect. I think he will tend to work mostly from the middle at first because that's what this country needs. Laying aside 'politics a usual' for the time being and working together as a whole government is exactly what we need and that's what he conveyed to all of us earlier in the conference.

We all need to put aside our differences and support our next President. I remember after 9-11 it seemed as if the country all came together as a whole. Regardless of race, creed or color, we banded all together. Although our togetherness came about after the most horrific time in America's history, we showed that we could indeed put aside our differences and show love to everyone around us. This is the time when we once again need to do this and we must keep it going. Let's not let it fade.

Let's all get behind Barack and support him. These next few years will be very tough on him and the people of our great nation. We all deserve better times and we can all have them. i know it's an old saying, but if we all try hard enough, all of us really can get along.

Peace and thank you for reading :-)

Read this and please tell me why the country is not outraged in what Obama has planned for our country. Where is the ACLU and the media on Obama’s plan for the youth of America.

Change.gov - The Official Web Site of the The U.S. Presidential Transition "Today we begin in earnest the work of making sure that the world we leave our children is just a little bit better than the one we inhabit today." - President-Elect Barack Obama

America Serves America Serves"When you choose to serve -- whether it’s your nation, your community or simply your neighborhood -- you are connected to that fundamental American ideal that we want life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness not just for ourselves, but for all Americans. That’s why it’s called the American dream."
The Obama Administration will call on Americans to serve in order to meet the nation’s challenges. President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.

Spring your story is horrifying. I can't believe that there are adults teaching or saying these types of things in this day and age. America needs to change. Race should never be an issue as to when it comes to a leader. He is a human. We should give every human a chance.

My children's lives have been threatened. We are white, democrat and baptist. We live in a Republic, Mormon community. Our six children came home with horror stories from school that have left me heaving. Our little one with CP and retardation says that Obama is gonna get killed. Our fifth grade daughter was taken to a pole by a group of boys on the playground and they pretended to chop her head off for voting for Obama. Our fifth grade son was made to witness pretend assassinations on sticks in the ground that the kids used to demonstrate their hate of Obama. He was also told by students that they had weapons Obama wants to take so they are going to use them on him and his supporters. Our seventh grade son was told to his face that him and Obama will be killed together. Our other 7th grader reports kids who say they will assassinate our president and his supporters. Kids saying they will blow up the white house. In our own church the preacher said form the pulpit in front of our children that Obama was a baby murderer.
Something is going to have to give. President elect Obama was chosen by the people. These death threats are not how a democracy is run. We are Americans. You read about this in the middle east-people persecuted for their beliefs. Will we really have to move to a safer community to escape persecution? What has this come to? We have never imposed our belief on anyone else.
Susan

LaCy CaSeY-

You felt safe with Bush in the White House? Are you on crack? Bush's policies and attempts to "protect" our borders only fueled Anti-American sentiment around the world and made us less safe here AND abroad.

By shutting our borders, we weren't allowing anyone in to go to school, to teach, to do research, to collaborate with others, or to start over here. People who would have brought MONEY, new discoveries, taught our children new things and would have gotten to know us, as true Americans. They then could have gone home and spread a positive message about us.

Bush's message was FEAR. Fear everything, the world is a scary place. THE WORLD IS NOT A SCARY PLACE, and IT IS NOT FULL OF EVIL PEOPLE. The world is a place that you need to respect, and be cautious about but not fear. There are by far more GOOD people than evil. But you've fallen for the GOP party line, Fear everything different from you.

It's summed up nicely in Disney's Beauty & the Beast, Kill the Beast song, "We don't like what we don't understand, in fact it scares us. Kill the Beast!"

This is not sound foreign policy. And if you have felt safe under George Bush, you have been living in a cartoon for the last 8 years.

You want to feel safe, go out and meet the Muslim families that live in your community. Talk to people who aren't white. Volunteer at a community center which serves a different ethnic group. Meet these people. They are really very nice. And they're more afraid of you, than you are of them.

Also, please grow up. This isn't about America anymore, it's gone global. We are a global nation. And if you truly don't feel safe, you can also move to Russia, where Sarah Palin can keep an eye on you from her house.

I voted for Obama, and I know that there are alot of republicans who are not happy about the new president, but it will always be like that. I do not think there has been any president who has been loved by everyone.

So to all the people who did not vote for him just give him a chance until he messes up. If McCain was president today, I would say I am not happy but I have to give him the benefit of the doubt to do good, this country has suffered so much espically since the last 8 years. This should be the time to work together, and put aside the hate remarks that he is a terriost, a muslim, or is associated with a terriost, and trying to say GOD help us! If God did not want this to happen he had the power to have McCain as the President.
Miss. Liberty

Nov 6 2008 4:17 PM

What the hell, Crown Royal? Not all the McCain supports are racist pigs as you seem to imply. I didn't vote for President-elect Obama because we have ideological differences. If this election were just about looks and speaking ability, I would have vote for Obama. Did you only vote for him because of race? If so, shame on you.
I may not agree with all his ideas, but he does a few good ones. I respect the man, but don't agree with his views on taxes, the role of government, and the war. I believe he won’t be able to follow through on the war promise because the Iraqis will ask us to stay longer than 16 months, however.
I’m very happy for the black community, because it’s about time for a black US president. This could be a great time for change in the way minorities feel about being Americans. Now we can all be Americans as oppose to African-Americans, Irish-Americans, Italian-American, etc. This is great victory for our society because it has broken down barriers that have been in place for too many years. I look forward to future of many minority Presidents. This is just the beginning!
Mr. & Mrs. Crown Royal

Nov 6 2008 3:50 AM

We did it!! Why all the ignorance from some McCain supporters? Would you be this mad if Obama where white? Now all the republicans can feel what all of us democrats have felt for the past 8 years. Are the fundamentals of your economy bad? Are you suffering from a mental recession? Now are you a winer? GIVE THE MAN A CHANCE!!! BEFORE YOU CRY ME A RIVER!!! THANK GOOD IT'S OVER!

Nov 6 2008 12:17 AM

Everyone "obviously" has a right to their opinion, however when those opinions are spoken in the form of "hatred" or "uneducated lies" , maybe it's best to leave those thoughts and words within your own circle of friends and/or families since that seem to be your ONLY source of information.

It is time for this country to stop BLAMING others and spreading hatred based on FEAR.

In response to the comment from Kimberly stating that those of us who voted for Obama need to wake up.....WE ARE AWAKE!! "WE" are the MAJORITY, as was verified by the results (ELECTORAL & POPULAR)of the election. "WE" voted for the Man that "WE" feel is best for the United States of America based on "facts" and "history" rather than LIES. WE want POSITIVE change!!

So please, the next time you choose to call the majority of this great country "STUPID", maybe you should check your intelligence.....and your facts! If you are as "smart" as you think, maybe YOU should run for office!

IT IS TIME TO WORK TOGETHER AS A NATION! STOP SPREADING HATRED & COME TOGETHER PEOPLE!
Alicia

Conservatives need to put the partisan rhetoric aside. We need to give President Elect Obama A chance. Let's see if he Governs on What he Campaigned, or how he voted. Let's see if he leads from the left or from the center. Only Ignorance and fear should make us be difficult. The focus should be the future of our country. Barack Obama was elected 44th President, Our President. Not just "Their" president. That type of talk is what angry leftist were saying about Bush and I abhor that talk and deem it Un-American! I disagree with his participles, I will never smear my Commander In Chief. Conservatives need to now more than ever show our true patriotism. Show what we as conservatives stand for and show our principles. Let's not be critical until it's called for. Let's enjoy the fact that Our republic has spoken. Let's look at the beauty that another peaceful transition has taken place in America. The greatest country on Earth. We are the envy of the world. This is what I believe. I am The Biggest Conservative in here. Be noble, humble and proud. Be happy that democracy lives!

Stock market is down because of the news that Obama won...

Nov 5 2008 5:22 PM

Tonight, after fifty-four hard-fought contests, our primary season has finally come to an end.

Sixteen months have passed since we first stood together on the steps of the Old State Capitol in Springfield, Illinois. Thousands of miles have been traveled. Millions of voices have been heard. And because of what you said - because you decided that change must come to Washington; because you believed that this year must be different than all the rest; because you chose to listen not to your doubts or your fears but to your greatest hopes and highest aspirations, tonight we mark the end of one historic journey with the beginning of another - a journey that will bring a new and better day to America. Tonight, I can stand before you and say that I will be the Democratic nominee for President of the United States.

I want to thank every American who stood with us over the course of this campaign - through the good days and the bad; from the snows of Cedar Rapids to the sunshine of Sioux Falls. And tonight I also want to thank the men and woman who took this journey with me as fellow candidates for President.

At this defining moment for our nation, we should be proud that our party put forth one of the most talented, qualified field of individuals ever to run for this office. I have not just competed with them as rivals, I have learned from them as friends, as public servants, and as patriots who love America and are willing to work tirelessly to make this country better. They are leaders of this party, and leaders that America will turn to for years to come.

That is particularly true for the candidate who has traveled further on this journey than anyone else. Senator Hillary Clinton has made history in this campaign not just because she's a woman who has done what no woman has done before, but because she's a leader who inspires millions of Americans with her strength, her courage, and her commitment to the causes that brought us here tonight.

What an unfair and racist election. Do you see all the black people chanting "OH WHAT A HISTORIC ELECTION, A BLACK PRESIDENT TO EASE OUR MINDS OF SLAVERY FROM MY ANCESTORS!"? This is rediculous. Good job America...you have just elected Hitler into office. You will be sorry here within 8 months. I will see you in the bread line. McCain deserves so much more honor and respect than this fraud. I am voting McCain next election.....unless Obama messes it up so much, that Obama would lead us for another 40 years to communism. I didn't know America was THIS stupid, but I was dead wrong. SEE YA IN THE BREAD LINE!

Nov 4 2008 9:40 PM

It was a creed written into the founding documents that declared the destiny of a nation.
Yes we can.
It was whispered by slaves and abolitionists as they blazed a trail toward freedom.
Yes we can. Yes we can.
It was sung my immigrants as they struck out from distant shores
and pioneers who pushed westward against an unforgiving wilderness.
Yes we can. Yes we can.
It was the call of workers who organized;
women who reached for the ballot;
a President who chose the moon as our new frontier;
and a King who took us to the mountaintop and pointed the way to the Promised Land.
Yes we can to justice and equality.

Yes we can to opportunity and prosperity.
Yes we can to opportunity and prosperity.
Yes we can heal this nation.
Yes we can repair this world.
Yes we can.

We know the battle ahead will be long,
but always remember that no matter what obstacles stand in our way,
nothing can withstand the power of millions of voices calling for change.
We want change!

We have been told we cannot do this by a chorus of cynics who will only grow louder and more dissonant.
We've been asked to pause for a reality check.
We've been warned against offering the people of this nation false hope.
But in the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about hope.

The hopes of the little girl who goes to a public school in Dillon are the same as teh dreams of the boy who learns on the streets of LA;
we will remember that there is something happening in America;
that we are not as divided as our politics suggests;
that we are one people;
we are one nation;
and together, we will begin the next chapter in America's story with three words that will ring from coast to coast; from sea to shining sea - Yes. We. Can.
